Gloucester, Massachusetts

5 September 2026

I am a little late getting this out, but I wanted to share it just the same. A couple of weekends ago we went to the Schooner Festival in Gloucester, MA to check out the activities. It is another New England regional event that is worth checking out.

Gloucester is a little bit out of the way to be sure. And it was not what I expected. But, then again, my expectations we set by movies like the “Perfect Storm” and not by actual knowledge.

Gloucester is costal city located on Cape Ann north of Boston. It is a historical shipbuilding and fishing village, go figure, and those traditions is woven into the cloth of the city. Gloucester also has a thriving arts community and there are many galleries and shops to explore. Also, Rudyard Kipling’s book Captains Courageous, and several other novels, are set in Gloucester.

Fo the lighthouse enthusiast, Eastern Point Lighthouse is located there but you have to go through a private housing area to get to it. I am going to plan an expedition this fall, when there are no crowds, to go photograph it. I am sure it would be better to have a boat, but I have to work with what I got.

If you are looking for something to do, and want to visit a working seaport city, I would consider Gloucester. There are lots of galleries, restaurants, museums, boats, and other things to see and do.

The photo selection is a combination of Black & White Film and modern digital. for the camera buffs, I use a Nikon F (1958), 50mm lens, for the film and a Nikon Ziii (70-200 Lens) for the digital images. The film images are hand developed by me.

Let me know what you like or don’t like. I am always looking for feedback.
