Open Mic at Crackskull's Coffee and Books
Newmarket, NH
20 August 2026
I was meeting a colleague outside Crackskull’s Coffee and Books in Newmarket. For those of you who are not familiar with Crackskull’s, they are a combination used bookstore, coffee shop, and trendy neighborhood hangout. They have been there for over 20 years now.
So, as we were finishing our conversation, I noticed that a few people with guitars, saxophones and other musical instruments were gathering outside. I asked Anistasia, the lady who seemed in charge, what was going on, and she said it was open mic night. I asked if they would like me to take some pictures, she agreed and, I was in.
In the interest of keeping things brief, the group that assembled was rather eclectic. The performances included original music, songs, prose, and poetry. Plus, there were a few acts that I am not exactly sure how to classify. The topics included, love, loss, trauma, and recovery. It was quirky to be sure, but it was also interesting, entertaining and fun.
So, if you are looking for something to do, before dinner, on the 3rd Friday of the month and you are in Newmarket, and not easily scared, then consider stopping by the Cracked Spines Variety Open Mic at Crackskulls. I am not sure if it will be your cup of tea, but you will have a memorable experience not to mention the opportunity for a good cup of coffee.
Of course, if you are looking for a book, coffee, a place to sit, read and enjoy intelligent conversation. Then I would check out Crackskull’s Coffee and Books any day of the week. They are truly a Newmarket institution. https://www.crackskulls.com. Check some of the pictures from the evening and send me a message if you would like know more or book an event.
